  9.  AB    OBJECTIVES: To verify how the community leaders evidence and work these
  10.        questions with the population, this effort proposes to investigate the
  11.        military policemen, inquiring how they work these questions in community
  12.        creating multiplying agents to facilitate this action. METHODOLOGY: 120
  13.        militaries (men: 19-68 years, acting in Ribeirao Preto) were interviewed
  14.        though directing instrument to detect their difficulties. The results
  15.        were qualiquantitative analized and then classificated by
  16.        categorization, favouring the description and interpretation. DISCUSSION
  17.        AND RESULTS: among the interviewed, 95% referred difficulties when
  18.        requested by the community to orientate about STD and AIDS; 88% exposed
  19.        inadequate knowledge about STD, confouding signals, symptoms and names
  20.        of these diseases; 37% revealed satisfactory knowledge about AIDS, but
  21.        62% did not have orientation to assist the infected individuals refering
  22.        fear of being infected through fisical contact, insects and swimming
  23.        pools suspecting that exist unknown infection ways not revealed by
  24.        science. CONCLUSION: to improve the knowledge about STD/AIDS of the
  25.        brazilian militaries, it is necessary a trainning program, favouring
  26.        their action in the community and creating multypling agents aiming the
  27.        health promotion and prevention in the local society.
